Oscar Wilde said,

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”

To make a great and lasting impression, just be you! There’s something about you that makes you different from the other 7 billion people on this planet. Go ahead and let that genuine, authentic part of you shine through. That’s the real you that people want to know and trust.

Have the courage to know who you are, to know your strengths, and to conduct yourself from that place of authenticity. Remember, this is where the real power lies – living above the line, where your thoughts, words and actions line up to your vision, goals and values.

Brené Brown, PhD, the author of Daring Greatly and other great books on authenticity, says:

“It’s challenging to be real in a world that wants us to fit in. We live in a world where we’re expected to please everybody. And often it can seem easier just to be what others want us to be, do what others want us to do, just to fit in.”

Brown says that to be authentic, we must cultivate the courage to be imperfect and vulnerable. I know this is hard. You’ll wrestle with the fear of not being good enough, or fear that you’ll let your boss, customer or co-workers down.

Bu it’s these moments in life that demand we show up and let go of who we think we’re supposed to be, and simply embrace who we really are. And that’s when your authentic self comes alive.
